Summary: The book The Brave is the sequel to The Contender. It about a seventeen year-old indian boy named Sonny Bear. He lives on the reservation with his uncle Jake. His life is very twisted. His mom is always somewhere selling jewlry in different states,and never comes to see him.The indians think he is white,and the whites think he is an indian.The only was to get rid of his anger is to box. Everyone in the sport discriminates against him, therefore travels to New York to become a top-notch contender. When he gets there, he doesn't expect to get caught in the middle of a drug war.The leader, Stick,who lives in The Duece convinces him to be his mule and sets him up. When he gets caught, he meets Alfred Brooks, a former contender-turned cop who takes him to the Donatelli Gym and trains him to stay away from Stick and to become a contender like he was.

I rate the book a 9.9 out of 10 because it was a page turner and I really like boxing.


About the author: He His professional journalism started in 1957 when he became a New York Times journalist at the age of 19. He was
sent to cover the Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) v.s. Sonny Listion bout. He became the new boxing reporter when he got back to New York after the fight. His first book came from the famous boxing manager Cus D'Amato and how a boy came up to his gym and wanted to be a contender.
